We are working to protect the Combs Road Wetland, at the southern edge of Marion County. Approximately a 45-acre tract that contains lowland marshes, an old-growth hardwood forest, and upland prairie. It is nestled between a church, subdivision, and family farm.
Our Mission
Our task force is united in preserving this natural resource – one of the last remaining wetlands of this quality in the Pleasant Creek watershed.
Our Vision
By forging a collaborative team comprised of key stakeholders, the vision is to create a greenspace that will not only benefit the members of this community but also set a precedent for future amenities in the township and city, bringing about a positive change for the approach to nature conservancy and quality of life for residents in developing areas.
Bring identified stakeholders to the table to strategize how to transform this area and demonstrate the conservation practices that lend to a diverse, responsible, and forward-thinking conservation plan.
To create a nature preserve park that allows the community to enjoy the natural green space while protecting the natural resources and biodiverse area that lends to the quality of life and conservation of natural resources that serve as a stormwater basin for the communities in the area.
The proposed park/nature preserve would help the city meet many of its stated goals of addressing inequality in greenspace access, expanding park facilities, adding trail connectivity, improving stormwater quality, and preserving biodiversity in the community.
An area that serves as a high-quality stormwater management device. A remnant forest large enough to support rare, endangered, and threatened species of special concern.
A large park with a variety of recreation opportunities. We believe that natural spaces like this are essential to the health and well-being of our community.
